Accor Expands in the Philippines with Mercure Mactan Cebu
Accor has announced a strategic partnership with Megaworld to launch the Mercure Mactan Cebu, expanding its presence in the Philippines. The 550-room hotel is scheduled to open in Q4 2025 and will be located within Mactan Newtown, a 30-hectare mixed-use township in Lapu-Lapu City. This collaboration underscores Accor’s commitment to growing its Midscale & Economy segment across Asia, particularly in emerging travel hubs.
Global hospitality leader Accor is set to broaden its footprint in Southeast Asia through a newly signed agreement with Megaworld, the Philippines’ leading township developer. The deal will bring the Mercure brand to Mactan Island, with the launch of Mercure Mactan Cebu scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. This new property will add 550 keys to Accor’s rapidly growing portfolio in the region, enhancing its position in the Premium, Midscale & Economy (PM&E) segment.
Strategically situated in The Mactan Newtown, a vibrant 30-hectare community developed by Megaworld in Lapu-Lapu City, the hotel is set to become a central component of an already thriving urban destination. The area is home to a blend of residential condominiums, office spaces, retail shops, and the Mactan Newtown Beach, which collectively attract both leisure and business travelers. A major feature of the township is the upcoming Mactan Expo, poised to emerge as a regional hub for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), further positioning Cebu as a premier tourism and business destination.
With its design and service philosophy rooted in celebrating local culture, Mercure Mactan Cebu will offer an immersive Filipino experience. Guests can expect décor and culinary offerings inspired by the region’s rich heritage. The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, bars, a swimming pool, fitness centre, business lounge, and a range of flexible event spaces for both indoor and outdoor functions.
According to Andrew Langdon, Chief Development Officer for Asia at Accor, the Philippines remains a key market for the group. The growth of bleisure travel (a blend of business and leisure) and Cebu’s status as a gateway city—thanks to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport—are driving this expansion.
Cleofe Albiso, Managing Director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, emphasized that the collaboration with Accor aims to not only enrich the Mactan Newtown project but also boost tourism and contribute to the local economy.
This announcement brings Accor’s presence in the Philippines to nine operational hotels and over 2,300 rooms across eight brands, with 18 additional projects and 4,000+ rooms in the pipeline, underscoring the group’s long-term investment in the region.
