Blackstone Hotel revival brings boutique energy to downtown Tyler
Valencia Hotel Collection is set to reintroduce the storied Blackstone Hotel name to Tyler, Texas, with a new full-service property planned for the city’s expanding downtown Square. Rising on the northeast corner of Broadway and Ferguson Streets, the future boutique hotel will be branded as a Tribute Portfolio Hotel by Marriott, combining independent character with global reach. With 144 guestrooms, bold design, and comprehensive amenities, the project is positioned to become a new social, business, and cultural hub for East Texas. It also underscores Valencia Hotel Collection’s ongoing growth as a developer and operator of design-forward hotels in key regional markets.
Paying homage to the original Blackstone Hotel, which opened in November 1922 and served for decades as the crown jewel of downtown Tyler and a backdrop for influential oil deals and society events, the new Hotel Blackstone will blend Art Deco influences with East Texas southern charm. The property is conceived as a high-profile flagship within the Valencia Hotel Collection, pairing a maximalist, style-driven interior with 144 thoughtfully designed guestrooms and suites. A strong focus on meetings and events will see the hotel deliver approximately 5,700 square feet of flexible function space – including generous pre-function areas – making it the largest and most versatile hotel event venue in the Tyler market, ideal for conferences, galas, and community gatherings.
Guest amenities are being curated to support both stayovers and local patronage. Plans include an outdoor swimming pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a three-meal restaurant with an exterior dining deck that connects directly to the street, and a signature bar and lounge designed as an all-day social anchor for residents and visitors. The hotel’s location, diagonally across from the new Smith County Courthouse and fronting the revitalized downtown Square, positions it as a cornerstone of Tyler’s ongoing urban renaissance, helping to drive footfall, extend dwell time, and encourage new investment in surrounding blocks. As construction moves forward following final design approvals, Valencia Hotel Collection expects Hotel Blackstone to emerge as Tyler’s premier lodging address, capturing the city’s history while offering a fresh, boutique-standard experience under the Tribute Portfolio flag.
