Hard Rock International is moving into Puerto Rico with plans for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan, an $850 million new-build development that will combine a hotel, casino, and branded residences in the capital. The project is scheduled to open in 2029, with construction expected to begin in mid-2026. Partners on the development include Misla Hospitality, Stonecrest Investment Management, and The Interfin Companies. The scheme is being positioned as a high-impact addition to the island’s tourism and investment landscape.

Planned to overlook both San Juan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan is expected to include approximately 415 rooms, 58 suites, and 186 branded residences. The design team includes Klai Juba Wald and CMA Architects, with the concept drawing on Puerto Rico’s cultural and musical heritage and incorporating work by community artists. The development is also being promoted as Hard Rock’s first destination and residence project in Puerto Rico, aiming to create a landmark, mixed-use arrival point close to key visitor corridors.

A major differentiator is the entertainment-led positioning. The property will aim to amplify local music culture through event venues, a recording studio, and local memorabilia integrated into the guest experience. It is also described as the first integrated casino in Puerto Rico designed to deliver a complete travel-and-entertainment format under one roof, strengthening the island’s ability to compete for high-spend leisure travelers and large-scale entertainment demand.

Resort-style amenities are planned across wellness, pools, and family offerings. The hotel will include the signature Rock Spa, a fitness center, and three terrace-level pools, with dedicated youth facilities including a kids’ club, a kids’ arcade, and curated teen hangout spaces. Location is being framed as a strategic advantage, with the project set near cruise activity and Old San Juan, and with access from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

The announcement drew support from public-sector and destination leaders, including Jenniffer González-Colón, Willianette Robles Cancel, and Jorge L. Pérez, who linked the development to job creation, added room inventory, and broader destination competitiveness. From the developer side, Giorgio Borlenghi emphasized cultural preservation, environmental responsibility, and community engagement as priorities, while Jeff Hook underscored the alignment between Hard Rock’s brand identity and Puerto Rico’s music heritage.
