Holiday Inn Mathura targets India’s spiritual travel growth
IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Embrassio Hotels & Resorts Private Limited, the hospitality arm of Vrindara Group, to develop Holiday Inn Mathura in India. The 115-key hotel is scheduled to open in early 2030, strengthening IHG’s presence in high-potential demand-led destinations across the country. Located in one of India’s oldest and most significant religious centres, the hotel is designed to respond to rising spiritual tourism and the need for quality branded accommodation in Mathura. With rooms and suites, three dining venues, meeting and event facilities, a fitness centre and swimming pool, the project will bring the globally recognised Holiday Inn brand to a major pilgrimage market.
The signing of Holiday Inn Mathura reflects IHG’s strategy of expanding beyond India’s largest metropolitan centres into destinations driven by strong local and visitor demand. Mathura holds deep religious and cultural importance, attracting travellers from across India throughout the year. As spiritual tourism grows, the need for trusted, professionally managed and internationally branded hotels in such markets is becoming more visible.
The project also highlights the continuing relevance of the Holiday Inn brand in India. As one of the world’s most recognised hotel brands, Holiday Inn is positioned to serve a broad range of travellers looking for comfort, reliability and accessible full-service hospitality. In Mathura, this makes the brand well suited to visitors who may be travelling for religious purposes, family trips, events or regional business.
Holiday Inn Mathura will offer 115 rooms and suites, giving the hotel a meaningful scale for the destination. This room count will allow the property to serve individual travellers, families, groups and guests visiting during peak spiritual and cultural periods. The accommodation will be supported by a service model intended to combine international standards with the warmth and character of the city.
Food and beverage will be an important part of the guest experience. The hotel will include three dining venues, comprising an all-day dining restaurant, a bar and a lobby lounge. This mix gives the property flexibility across different guest needs, from casual meals and daily breakfast to relaxed meetings and evening socialising.
The all-day dining restaurant will provide the main culinary anchor of the hotel. For a destination like Mathura, where guests may follow varied schedules linked to temple visits, family plans or group travel, an all-day venue can provide important convenience. The lobby lounge will also serve as a natural gathering point for arrivals, informal meetings and quiet breaks during the day.
The hotel will also include meeting and event facilities across five venues, including a ballroom. This positions Holiday Inn Mathura to support local functions, business meetings, social events and group travel. In spiritual destinations, demand often extends beyond individual stays to include family gatherings, ceremonies, community events and organised group itineraries.
The ballroom will give the hotel a more substantial event platform within the market. Combined with additional meeting venues, it allows the property to serve both formal and social occasions. This event capability can help broaden the hotel’s demand base beyond overnight accommodation alone.
Leisure and wellness facilities will include a fitness centre and swimming pool. These amenities strengthen the property’s appeal to modern travellers who expect more than a basic stay, even in pilgrimage-led destinations. They also support longer stays and family travel by giving guests space to relax and maintain routines.
The partnership with Embrassio Hotels & Resorts Private Limited places the project within the broader hospitality ambitions of Vrindara Group. For the owner, the agreement with IHG brings the credibility and operating strength of a global hospitality company to a destination with rising visitor demand. For IHG, the partnership offers a route into a market aligned with its India growth strategy.
The announcement also reflects owner demand for Holiday Inn in India. IHG notes that the brand has a pipeline of more than 40 Holiday Inn-branded hotels in the country. This indicates strong confidence in the brand’s ability to serve a wide range of Indian travel markets, from business and leisure destinations to spiritual and regional centres.
For IHG, India remains a major growth market. The company currently has 52 hotels operating across six brands in India, including Six Senses, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, voco, Holiday Inn Resort and Holiday Inn Express. It also has a pipeline of 98 hotels scheduled to open in the next three to five years.
The signing of Holiday Inn Mathura adds another point to that development map. It shows how global hotel companies are increasingly looking at destinations where infrastructure, domestic travel, religious tourism and rising expectations for branded accommodation intersect. Mathura fits that profile because of its long-standing spiritual importance and growing visitor base.
The project also supports IHG’s broader goal of bringing globally trusted brands to high-potential destinations. In markets where travellers want reliability, consistency and recognisable service standards, an international brand can help raise expectations and provide reassurance. This can be especially important for families and groups travelling to spiritual centres.
For Mathura, the arrival of Holiday Inn will add a branded full-service hotel to a destination already supported by significant religious tourism. The hotel’s planned facilities suggest a property that can serve both the practical and emotional needs of visitors: comfortable rooms, dining, gathering spaces, event venues and leisure amenities in one professionally managed setting.
The development is scheduled to open in early 2030, giving IHG and Vrindara Group time to position the hotel for the city’s evolving hospitality demand. As spiritual tourism continues to grow in India, branded hotels in important religious centres are likely to become more important for both domestic travellers and organised travel groups.
With Holiday Inn Mathura, IHG Hotels & Resorts is preparing to enter one of India’s most meaningful spiritual destinations with a 115-key hotel under a globally recognised brand. The project will combine rooms and suites, three dining venues, five meeting and event spaces, a ballroom, fitness centre and swimming pool. Backed by a management agreement with Embrassio Hotels & Resorts Private Limited, the hotel reflects IHG’s continued focus on demand-led growth and the rising importance of spiritual tourism within India’s hospitality landscape.
