IHCL signs Tree of Life resort in Sakaleshpur, strengthening Karnataka leisure portfolio
Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed a new Tree of Life resort in Sakaleshpur, Karnataka, reinforcing its presence along the Western Ghats. The intimate 40 key retreat will add to IHCL’s growing collection of boutique, nature led properties in high potential leisure destinations. With this development, the company’s portfolio in Karnataka rises to 34 hotels, including 19 under development, underscoring its long term commitment to the state’s tourism growth. The resort is being developed in partnership with Mystica Retreats LLP, promoted by seasoned entrepreneurs Sharanabasava Meti and Kemparaju.
Set amidst the lush landscapes of the Western Ghats, Tree of Life Sakaleshpur is envisioned as a tranquil sanctuary framed by dense forests and a perennial stream that anchors the site’s natural charm. The 40 key resort will feature an all day dining restaurant and bar, a swimming pool, treatment room and yoga space, reflecting the brand’s focus on slow, mindful travel and immersive leisure stays. Curated on site experiences will be designed to help guests connect deeply with the surroundings, from walks along plantation trails to quiet moments by the water, positioning the property as a peaceful counterpoint to urban getaways.
The signing also marks IHCL’s early entry into an underpenetrated micro market where experiential and boutique accommodation is seeing rising demand. Sakaleshpur is emerging as a serene hill station destination with a blend of heritage, trekking and plantation tourism, offering access to attractions such as Manjarabad Fort, Kaginahare Fort, Bisle Ghat Viewpoint, Jenukal Gudda and the Kaginahare Forest ruins. By adding Tree of Life Sakaleshpur to its pipeline, IHCL strengthens its boutique and eco sensitive positioning along the Western Ghats belt, complementing its broader portfolio of brands that range from Taj and SeleQtions to Vivanta, Gateway and Ginger.
For Mystica Retreats LLP, the project leverages the infrastructure and hospitality experience of Sharanabasava Meti, whose background includes large scale construction, petroleum distribution and hotels, and Kemparaju, an entrepreneur active in real estate, agriculture, cinema and education. Their partnership with IHCL brings together local knowledge and operational expertise to create a resort rooted in regional character yet aligned with global service standards. As domestic travellers continue to seek quieter, nature rich escapes, Tree of Life Sakaleshpur is poised to become a compelling boutique address within IHCL’s expanding leisure network in southern India.
