Leonardo Hotels enters Portugal and deepens focus on Italy and Poland
Leonardo Hotels Central Europe is expanding its international footprint with its first-ever hotel in Portugal while intensifying development efforts in Italy and Poland. The group presented the strategy as part of its agenda for continued European hotel growth in 2026. At the centre of the announcement is Hotel Corpus Christi Lisboa – Leonardo Limited Edition, which will mark both the company’s debut in Lisbon and the first Leonardo Limited Edition property on the Iberian Peninsula. The broader move confirms Leonardo Hotels’ intention to strengthen its position in key business and leisure travel markets where it already has established operations and brand presence.
The planned Lisbon opening represents a significant milestone for Leonardo Hotels. Scheduled to launch in October 2026, the 132-room Hotel Corpus Christi Lisboa – Leonardo Limited Edition will be located in Baixa, the historic heart of the Portuguese capital. The hotel is housed in a former 18th-century monastery and has been created through a renovation that respected the building’s listed status, combining heritage character with a high-end restaurant and a service-led guest experience. Alongside the Portugal debut, the company has identified Italy and Poland as priority growth markets for 2026. In Italy, Leonardo Hotels already operates eight hotels across four brands, offering around 1,430 rooms in destinations including Rome, Venice, Milan, Verona, and Lake Garda, covering segments from boutique hotels and spa resorts to lifestyle and business hotels. In Poland, the group has built a strong presence in Warsaw and Krakow, with more than 850 rooms across Leonardo Royal Warsaw, NYX Hotel Warsaw, and two Boutique Hotels in Krakow, giving it a balanced platform across the business, lifestyle, and boutique hospitality segments. The company also highlighted further growth projects for 2026, including Leonardo Royal Madrid Valdebebas in Spain and Leonardo Torremolinos Costa del Sol, while continuing to expand and modernise its portfolio in Germany. According to the release, the strategy is designed to reinforce local structures, build on existing management teams, and extend the group’s reach into additional destinations and segments across Europe.
