Mercer Hoteles has officially opened Mercer Madrid, marking its first property in the capital and its eighth in Spain. The launch also coincides with the group’s 20th anniversary, giving the opening added symbolic weight within the brand’s wider evolution. Positioned in the stately Jerónimos district, the hotel introduces a new five-star grand luxe address in one of Madrid’s most established and exclusive neighbourhoods. It also strengthens the group’s presence in the upper end of the Spanish luxury hospitality market.

At the heart of Mercer Madrid is a strong sense of place. The hotel is located on Ruiz de Alarcón 5, close to the city’s most important museums, including the Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofía, and near landmarks such as El Retiro, La Cibeles and Puerta de Alcalá. This setting gives the property a distinctly cultural and residential character, positioning it as an urban retreat in one of Madrid’s most refined areas rather than a conventional city-centre hotel. The location reinforces the hotel’s appeal for travellers seeking both exclusivity and direct access to the capital’s artistic and historic core.

The property offers 61 rooms and suites, combining timeless design with contemporary comfort in a format intended to reflect the brand’s discreet and elegant style. The building itself adds another important layer to the project’s identity. Mercer Madrid occupies the former corporate headquarters of the Sociedad General Azucarera de España, in a property designed in 1905 by Enrique Mª Repullés y Vargas. That historical background gives the hotel a strong architectural narrative, allowing Mercer Hoteles to position the opening not only as a commercial expansion, but also as the revival of a landmark building within Madrid’s heritage fabric.

With Mercer Madrid, the group is bringing its established luxury hotel approach to a market where character, service and location carry particular importance. The opening represents a strategic step for Mercer Hoteles, giving the brand a foothold in the Spanish capital while extending a portfolio already present in other cities across the country. In that sense, Mercer Madrid is more than a new hotel launch - it is a statement of intent from a Spanish luxury operator entering one of the country’s most competitive and visible hospitality markets.
