Accor is continuing its Romania expansion with the signing of Mercure Craiova, a new hotel developed under a franchise agreement with Romanian investor MKS PROD. The project reinforces the group’s strategy of growing in key regional cities with strong economic and tourism potential. It also adds momentum to Mercure’s position in the midscale hotel segment, where local relevance and flexible design remain central to the brand’s appeal. The signing reflects continued confidence in Romania as an increasingly important hospitality market in Central and Eastern Europe.

The new-build Mercure Craiova will offer 78 rooms and is being designed to serve both business and leisure demand in one of southern Romania’s most dynamic urban centers. The hotel will include flexible workspaces, a contemporary interior concept inspired by the local context, a modern meeting suite, an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby bar, fitness facilities and on-site parking. This combination is intended to support corporate travelers while also responding to the city’s evolving tourism profile.

For Accor, the project fits into a broader long-term strategy in Romania, where the group currently operates 25 hotels and has a pipeline of 40 additional properties across multiple brands. The company is clearly targeting sustained growth through local partnerships and expansion beyond the capital into regional hubs with rising commercial and visitor activity. In that context, Mercure Craiova represents another step in strengthening the group’s national footprint and reinforcing Mercure’s role as a leading midscale brand.

The location is expected to be a major advantage for the property. Situated close to the city centre, the hotel will offer easy access to the shopping district, cultural attractions and Craiova International Airport, which is around 10 minutes away. This positioning supports Craiova’s emergence as both a business destination and a growing leisure travel market. The city’s increasing international visibility, including recognition for its Christmas Market by European Best Destinations for 2025, adds further weight to the hotel’s market potential and strengthens its prospects as a notable new hospitality address in Southern Romania.
