Minor Hotels has been appointed by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, known as Shurooq, to manage and operate Sharjah Collection in the United Arab Emirates. The portfolio brings together seven nature-led and heritage-inspired boutique properties across the emirate of Sharjah. The agreement marks a significant step in the continued development of one of the region’s most distinctive hospitality collections. It also strengthens Minor Hotels’ presence in the Middle East through properties rooted in culture, nature and sustainability.

The agreement was signed during an official ceremony in Sharjah in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Shurooq, His Excellency Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of Shurooq, and Amir Golbarg, Chief Operating Officer of Minor Hotels Middle East & Africa. The event was also attended by William Heinecke, Founder and Chairman of Minor International. Their presence underlined the strategic importance of the partnership for both Sharjah’s tourism ambitions and Minor Hotels’ regional growth.

Under the agreement, Minor Hotels will oversee the management and operations of Sharjah Collection. The group will bring its global hospitality expertise, commercial capabilities and international distribution network to the portfolio. At the same time, the partnership is designed to preserve the distinctive identity, heritage and local character of each property. Following a programme of investment and enhancement, the properties will join Minor Hotels’ upper-upscale and luxury portfolio.

Sharjah Collection includes seven unique retreats located across the emirate’s coastal, desert, mountain and heritage landscapes. The portfolio comprises Al Badayer Retreat, Al Faya Retreat, Kingfisher Retreat, Moon Retreat, Najd Al Meqsar, Al Rayaheen Retreat and Nomad. Together, these properties offer immersive hospitality experiences shaped by nature, culture and sustainability.

The collection’s strength lies in its diversity of settings. Guests can experience desert landscapes, coastal environments, mountain heritage and secluded natural retreats within one emirate. This gives Sharjah Collection a distinctive position in the regional hospitality market, where travellers are increasingly looking for authentic, place-led and experience-rich stays rather than standardised hotel products.

For Shurooq, the partnership forms part of a wider strategy to strengthen Sharjah’s tourism sector. The authority is using collaborations with international hospitality operators to enhance destination competitiveness, attract new visitor segments and reinforce the emirate’s role as a leading destination for sustainable and experience-led tourism. By working with Minor Hotels, Shurooq aims to expand the collection’s international reach while maintaining the authenticity and values that define the portfolio.

For Minor Hotels, the appointment adds a highly distinctive group of properties to its regional platform. The company will be able to apply its operational expertise, global systems, brand standards and distribution strength while supporting the individuality of each retreat. This balance is particularly important for a portfolio such as Sharjah Collection, where the appeal depends on local heritage, landscape and a strong connection to place.

The agreement also reflects the growing importance of sustainable tourism and heritage hospitality in the Middle East. Rather than focusing only on large-scale urban hotels or beachfront resorts, Sharjah Collection highlights smaller, experience-led retreats that celebrate the emirate’s natural and cultural assets. This approach aligns with increasing demand from travellers seeking meaningful stays connected to local stories, conservation and regional identity.

Minor Hotels is a global hospitality group with more than 640 hotels, resorts and branded residences in operation and committed development across 66 countries. Its portfolio includes brands such as Anantara, Elewana Collection, The Wolseley Hotels, Tivoli, Minor Reserve Collection, NH Collection, nhow, Avani, Colbert Collection, NH, Oaks and iStay. Through the management of Sharjah Collection, the group is adding a portfolio that reflects the growing value of nature-based, culturally grounded and sustainably positioned hospitality in the UAE.
