Pursuit Attractions Acquires Costa Rica’s Iconic Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa for $111 Million
In a landmark deal underscoring the growing demand for eco-luxury and wellness tourism, Pursuit Attractions and Hospitality Inc. (NYSE: PRSU) has acquired Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, for $111 million USD. The transaction, brokered by JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group, marks one of the most significant hospitality acquisitions in Latin America in recent years.
Located at the foot of the Arenal Volcano and nestled within over 230 hectares of lush tropical rainforest, Tabacón is one of the most celebrated thermal resorts globally. Its extensive natural thermal springs, cascading pools, and immersive design have positioned it as a flagship destination for wellness and experiential travel.
The resort features 105 upscale rooms and suites, designed with locally sourced artisanal materials and panoramic views of the surrounding rainforest and volcano. Accommodation sizes range from 35 to over 230 square meters, catering to a range of premium guests. A key highlight of the resort is its natural thermal river network, accessible not only to hotel guests but also through Choyin Río Termal, a sister brand designed to expand wellness access to a wider audience.
Adding to its appeal, the resort is home to an open-air, world-class spa, organically integrated into the rainforest, offering guests a wellness experience deeply rooted in nature.
According to Andrew Dickey, Managing Director at JLL, the acquisition represents “a truly irreplaceable opportunity” in a destination benefiting from surging tourism, increased international air connectivity, and an asset-light operational model that allows full branding and development flexibility.
For Pursuit Attractions, known for curating premium, immersive travel experiences, the acquisition aligns with its strategy of growing a global portfolio of high-value, nature-based destinations. Tabacón’s combination of luxury hospitality, thermal wellness, and environmental immersion makes it a strategic fit poised for further development under Pursuit’s stewardship.
This acquisition also signals confidence in Costa Rica’s booming wellness and sustainable tourism sector, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a global leader in eco-conscious travel.
