RIU Reopens Riu Palace La Mola as a Four-Star Superior Resort in Formentera
RIU Hotels & Resorts has officially reopened the Riu Palace La Mola in Formentera after an extensive transformation, marking its elevation to a four-star superior property within the brand’s Riu Palace luxury line. Located next to the stunning Migjorn Beach, the redesigned hotel now offers a more refined and exclusive experience, perfectly aligned with the sophisticated Mediterranean charm of the island.
The renovation of Riu Palace La Mola was a landmark moment for Luis and Roberto Riu Rodríguez, the fourth-generation family members who, for the first time, were given full autonomy over the project's design, equipment, and service offerings. Their vision has reimagined the hotel’s spaces, optimizing them for comfort and elegance while maintaining the original size of 345 rooms, now enhanced with modern Mediterranean decor and greater functionality.
Key improvements include the expansion of the lobby and terrace, providing guests with a bright, welcoming atmosphere and panoramic sea views. The addition of a new outdoor performance space enhances the resort’s entertainment offerings. The guest rooms, now more spacious and stylish, have been upgraded for maximum comfort, and the number of suites has increased to eight, each offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Dining at Riu Palace La Mola has also been elevated. Guests can now enjoy three restaurants: the main buffet restaurant Sargantana, the gourmet à la carte Krystal, and the beachfront snack venue Ilios. The culinary enhancements aim to continue the hotel’s reputation as a standout gastronomic destination on the island.
Leisure and wellness facilities have seen significant upgrades, including a refreshed fitness center, spa, and solarium featuring Balinese beds. The property now boasts four swimming pools, including a new children's pool attached to the newly introduced RIU Land Kid’s Club.
In recognition of its commitment to sustainability, the renovated Riu Palace La Mola was awarded the Re Think Hotel Award. Eco-friendly upgrades include solar panels for electrical self-sufficiency, a geothermal heat pump for air conditioning, energy-efficient equipment, and comprehensive water-saving and waste-reduction measures, reinforcing RIU’s dedication to environmentally responsible tourism.
