Shanghai’s Peace Hotel to Reemerge as Raffles Peace Hotel in 2027
Accor and Jinjiang International Group have announced the transformation of one of Shanghai’s most iconic landmarks, the Fairmont Peace Hotel, into the Raffles Peace Hotel Shanghai. This architectural masterpiece, originally built in 1929 as the Cathay Hotel by Sir Victor Sassoon, will remain open during its extensive renovation and is set to relaunch under the Raffles brand in 2027.
The Peace Hotel, an enduring symbol of Shanghai’s cosmopolitan legacy, is poised to enter a new era of ultra-luxury hospitality. Owned by Jinjiang Group since 1984 and managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts since 2010, the property has long held a revered place in China’s cultural and architectural landscape. Its upcoming transformation under the Raffles name will merge historical prestige with contemporary elegance, drawing inspiration from Raffles Singapore and other globally revered Raffles properties.
The redesign will preserve elements recognized by the National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit, while elevating the guest experience with fine art, gourmet cuisine, and bespoke service. The Raffles brand’s hallmark sophistication, combining British formality, Asian hospitality, and Chinese nuances, will be at the heart of the hotel’s renewed identity. Guests can expect immersive cultural experiences, refined interiors, and elevated culinary offerings reflective of Shanghai’s modern charm and storied past.
This announcement also marks a continuation of the trusted partnership between Accor and Jinjiang International Group, who have worked closely to maintain and evolve the hotel’s heritage. The conversion of the Peace Hotel into a Raffles flagship property is a statement of intent: to position the hotel among the world’s most prestigious destinations, alongside recent Raffles openings in Sentosa, Paris, London, and Boston, and upcoming locations in Jeddah.
