The Monteleone opens in Umbria as a boutique retreat shaped by heritage and wellness
The Monteleone has opened on the border of Umbria and Tuscany, introducing a new boutique hotel rooted in the landscape and traditions of central Italy. Set in the hilltop village of Monteleone d’Orvieto, the 17-room retreat occupies a restored 19th-century villa framed by medieval walls, olive groves and countryside. The property has been designed to preserve the character of the original rural residence while introducing a calm, contemporary hospitality style. A key part of the concept is the contribution of StudioTamat, which designed four suites for the hotel.
The design of The Monteleone is built around a minimal and harmonious aesthetic that balances comfort with understated elegance. Light plays a central role throughout the interiors, while refined lines and pared-back furnishings are combined with weathered stone, traditional Italian terracotta tiles, raw plaster and tactile fabrics. Iron and wood crafted by Umbrian artisans reinforce the connection to local heritage, giving the hotel an atmosphere that feels both authentic and quietly modern. The four suites by StudioTamat were conceived as intimate micro-environments, with a focus on craftsmanship, proportion and a serene sense of wellbeing.
Across the property, The Monteleone offers six guestroom categories, including six rooms with private gardens. The Signature Suite features a dedicated relaxation area with a standalone bathtub, extending the hotel’s broader focus on restorative travel. Wellness facilities include an outdoor pool with panoramic views over the Umbrian hills, an open-air spa, a jacuzzi and a sauna. Guests also have access to a sensory barefoot path made from natural textured materials designed to stimulate circulation and encourage grounding, while a recently acquired olive grove adds another layer to the hotel’s nature-led wellness setting.
