The Pinnacle Kigali has joined Small Luxury Hotels of the World, becoming the first property in Rwanda to enter the global collection. The nine-room ultra-luxury city retreat is scheduled to open in 2026, with nightly rates starting at $3,090. Located in Kigali, the property is designed to encourage travellers to spend more time in Rwanda’s capital before or after visiting the country’s gorilla highlands. Its affiliation with SLH positions the hotel as a new benchmark for boutique luxury hospitality in East Africa.
The addition of The Pinnacle Kigali marks a significant milestone for both Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Rwanda’s hospitality sector. As SLH’s first property in the country, the retreat brings international visibility to Kigali, a capital increasingly recognised for its arts, culture, cuisine and urban appeal. The hotel was selected for its intimate scale, distinctive character and strong sense of place.
The property was founded by entrepreneur Sheila Kyarisiima, who originally envisioned the project as a private residence for her family. As the concept evolved, she identified a gap in Kigali’s hospitality landscape: the absence of an urban retreat matching the prestige of Rwanda’s luxury mountain lodges. This led to the creation of a small-scale resort intended to make the capital a meaningful part of the wider Rwanda travel journey.
The Pinnacle Kigali features just nine guest rooms, each individually appointed with bespoke furnishings, deep soaking tubs, smart lighting and curated pan-African art. The limited room count gives the property an exclusive residential atmosphere, while its design and service model place it firmly in the ultra-luxury hotel segment.
Despite its intimate size, the retreat offers an extensive collection of amenities. Facilities include a saltwater infinity pool, a full-service spa and wellness centre, and a modern fitness facility. Guests also have access to a 21-seat Dolby Atmos private cinema, a four-lane bowling alley, a games lounge and a curated library, creating a city retreat that combines rest, entertainment and cultural discovery.
Local exploration is central to the guest experience. The hotel team can arrange tailored city experiences, including visits to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kandt House Museum, Kigali Cultural Village and Niyo Arts Center. Guests can also explore Nyamirambo through guided walks, visit Kimironko Market, or discover contemporary Rwandan design at Wear Made in Rwanda.
Dining at The Pinnacle Kigali is spread across four venues. The signature Ishami Rooftop serves Afro-Asian fusion and teppanyaki with panoramic views of the city skyline. Other menus draw on pan-European and Mediterranean influences, positioning the property’s culinary offer as an important part of its multi-sensory luxury experience.
The hotel also includes the Pinnacle Private Members Lounge, designed as a social and business hub for entrepreneurs, creatives and cultural leaders. The lounge adds a local community dimension to the property, allowing the hotel to function not only as a place for international guests, but also as a meeting point for Kigali’s emerging business and creative circles.
The retreat is intentionally positioned as a two-night city stay before or after gorilla trekking. Guests heading to or returning from Rwanda’s gorilla highlands can use the hotel as a restorative base in the capital. A complimentary Departure Amenity allows guests to access hotel facilities on departure day to refresh, dine or relax in the spa before their flight, while day-use rates are also available.
Each stay includes bespoke services and amenities valued at $1,400 for room reservations and $1,800 for suite reservations, based on double occupancy. These include VIP airport meet-and-greet, expedited clearance, private transfers, dedicated personal butler service, massage treatments, laundry and post-trek shoe care. With The Pinnacle Kigali, Small Luxury Hotels of the World is bringing a new level of Rwanda luxury travel, urban wellness and independent boutique hospitality to East Africa.
