The Shepherd Mayfair will open on 1 September 2026, introducing a new boutique hotel to Shepherd Market in London’s Mayfair. The 82-room property is positioned as a neighbourhood-led alternative to the grand hotels traditionally associated with the district. Designed by Timothy Shepherd of Shepherd&, the hotel draws directly from the history of its site and the character of the surrounding quarter. Ahead of opening, the property has revealed the first menu from its signature restaurant, Fayre.

The hotel occupies one of Mayfair’s most storied plots, on the site of the area’s oldest house known as The Cottage, dating back to 1618. The land was once associated with a shepherd tending his flock, before the surrounding fields became home to the annual May Fair. Later, architect and developer Edward Shepherd transformed the area into the intimate urban quarter that still carries his name.

This layered history forms the foundation of The Shepherd Mayfair’s identity. Rather than presenting itself as a conventional luxury hotel, the property is designed around place, memory and neighbourhood rhythm. Its concept connects the elegance of Mayfair with the intimacy of Shepherd Market, creating a hotel that aims to feel rooted in daily local life.

The Shepherd Mayfair will comprise 82 rooms and suites across six floors. The design is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Mayfair’s historic mansions, combining residential warmth with refined urban hospitality. The hotel’s scale supports a more personal guest experience, while its location places travellers close to one of London’s most recognisable luxury districts.

At the centre of the hotel’s food and beverage offer will be Fayre, a 62-cover restaurant located on the ground floor. The restaurant will serve seasonal dishes across breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu built around British produce, familiar favourites and refined European classics. Its positioning is based on warmth, confidence and the enduring appeal of London’s great neighbourhood dining rooms.

The interior of Fayre will feature banquette seating, dark timber panelling and a rich berry-toned palette inspired by mulberry and blueberry hues. Wall coverings by urban artist Adam Ellis will bring theatrical scenes into the space, referencing the historic fair that once animated Mayfair’s open fields. These designs reinterpret livestock markets, theatres, jugglers and games of chance, allowing the restaurant to carry the story of Shepherd Market into both setting and atmosphere.

The opening menu at Fayre will include snacks such as lobster and prawn brioche roll and braised beef short rib croquette. Starters will range from crispy duck confit salad and citrus-cured trout to scallops, while main courses will include Gloucester Old Spot pork chop, beef Wellington pithivier, dry-aged steaks and seasonal vegetarian dishes. The menu is designed to feel familiar, polished and repeatable, appealing to hotel guests, local regulars and first-time visitors.

Desserts will include a signature concept called Puddings by the Glass, in which classic puddings are presented in a tall glass as a playful reference to the theatre and spectacle of the original May Fair. The first in the series will be strawberry and Champagne trifle, with a new glass dessert introduced each week and inspired by flavours and recipes from the fair’s historic era. Other opening desserts will include Paris-Brest with pistachio mousseline cream and chocolate chips, Baked Alaska with caramelised pear, hazelnut and honey, and blackberry Bakewell tart.

The wider hospitality offer will include The Lounge, a relaxed café-style space with 46 covers and an outdoor terrace. This venue will support the hotel’s daytime rhythm, creating a setting for morning coffee, casual meetings and neighbourhood lunches. Its role within the hotel is to make The Shepherd Mayfair feel accessible to local guests as well as overnight visitors.

A third concept, Teddy’s, will be located on the lower ground floor as a hidden late-night cocktail bar. Together with Fayre and The Lounge, it gives the hotel a collection of spaces that evolve naturally from day to night. This structure supports the property’s ambition to become part of the everyday life of Shepherd Market, rather than operating only as a destination for hotel guests.

With its 82 rooms and suites, historic site, locally rooted design and three complementary food and beverage venues, The Shepherd Mayfair is set to add a distinctive boutique address to London’s luxury hotel scene. The property brings together Mayfair heritage, neighbourhood dining, contemporary interiors and a strong sense of place. Its opening on 1 September 2026 will mark a new chapter for one of the district’s most characterful corners.
