Travelodge Breaks Ground on New 100-Room Hotel in Loughton
Travelodge, the UK’s pioneering budget hotel brand, has officially begun construction of a new 100-room hotel in Loughton, Essex. Situated near the M11 and a short walk from Debden Underground Station, the hotel is poised to serve both business and leisure travellers seeking affordable accommodation with excellent connectivity to central London. This marks another step in Travelodge’s continued expansion across key locations in the UK.
As part of its ambitious UK-wide growth strategy, Travelodge has launched construction of a new hotel in Loughton, further strengthening its presence in the southeast of England. The upcoming hotel is strategically located just off the M11, offering direct access to the M25 and excellent transport links via Debden Underground Station, which lies only an eight-minute walk from the site. This makes it a convenient base for commuters, visitors to London, and those flying in and out of Stansted Airport, which is just a 30-minute drive away.
The Loughton Travelodge will feature the brand’s next-generation premium design, including a contemporary reception area and next-gen rooms focused on comfort and functionality. One of its key highlights will be the newly introduced 85 Bar Café, a stylish and flexible dining and social space catering to modern travellers. The development will also include on-site parking, adding convenience for guests arriving by car.
This new property forms part of a broader mixed-use scheme incorporating office and self-storage space, ensuring the site contributes to wider local commercial activity. Higgins Group serves as the developer for the project, with Barnes Construction appointed as the principal contractor overseeing the build.
Located adjacent to Epping Forest Shopping Park and offering easy access to the expansive greenery of Epping Forest, the new hotel is expected to attract a wide demographic of travellers. Upon completion, it will also generate new employment opportunities and boost the local economy by driving increased footfall to nearby businesses and amenities.
With more than 610 hotels already operating across the UK, Ireland, and Spain, this development represents a strategic investment by Travelodge as it aims to meet rising demand for affordable, well-connected accommodation on the edge of major urban centres like London.
