In addition to eight well-performing Arcona Living hotels and four Arcona hotels, the acquisition also includes five Steigenberger properties franchised by Deutsche Hospitality, as well as two projects in Greifswald and Mannheim. The purchase price was agreed to remain undisclosed. “Arcona’s city hotels fit perfectly into the Vienna House portfolio. Two partners have come together who are focused on positioning their brand. This forms a thoughtful basis for our development, and we understand each other very well,” explains Rupert Simoner, CEO of Vienna House. All employees of the sold Arcona city hotels will be employed by Vienna House. The hotels will be managed under lease agreements and branded as Vienna House. Austria’s largest hotel group currently operates and develops over 40 hotels in Europe, focusing primarily on city hotels under the Vienna House, Vienna House Easy, and Vienna House R.evo brands.

In contrast, Arcona’s managing director Alexander Winter sees the future of his company in managing resort hotels. The Arcona portfolio will thus retain six hotels in popular vacation destinations such as Sylt, Kitzbühel, and Rügen, as well as the Elephant Hotel in Weimar, Thuringia, and the Romantik Hotel auf der Wartburg in Eisenach. Going forward, Barefoot Hotels will be a major driving force for Arcona's development. The company recently signed a long-term agreement with Barefoot founder Til Schweiger to implement this concept worldwide under a licensing model. “Our remaining hotels and the Barefoot concept will allow us to fully focus on the still-growing leisure hotel market and build a prosperous future together with our employees,” said Arcona partners Alexander Winter and Stephan Gerhard confidently. Over the next decade, 20 Barefoot Hotels are expected to open. “We see tremendous potential here, both domestically and internationally,” Winter confirms. Arcona’s headquarters will remain in Rostock, where they will relocate to new offices in Zeeck’sche Villa in the second half of 2019.

  • Arcona Living hotels in Osnabrück, Wetzlar, Leipzig, Baden-Baden, Berlin, Bremen, Munich, and Schaffhausen
  • Steigenberger hotels in Rostock, Wismar, Osnabrück, Braunschweig, and Eisenach
